10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not fun for a lot of us. But it is important. As the winter near an end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve collected over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of a house?
The outside of your house could likely use some tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your house in Reno, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save a lot of money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time of year to clean out your gutters, since so many leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they are not cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not give you much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows are a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring chore, and will need a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your house, patio furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t stain your house, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem silly since you will just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use during the summer months, so it is easy to forget about it during the winter since you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio might be in pretty rough shape the first time you go onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or algae, you need to think about a more serious option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical roof problems in Reno. While you’re cleaning the outside of your house, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you will have to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is typically obvious, too. These particles can’t be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your roof.
The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and let it be. This solution will kill any organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is going to be what most people see, so make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a clean exterior will instantly improve your day, and will encourage you to spend more time outdoors.
Clean your front porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and think about painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You will soon be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is a great time to organize whatever you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment should all have a specific area outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your house much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and bushes make a major impact on the overall look of your house.
Eliminate weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family sick.
Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You can probably finish these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Reno Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
